Dozens of nude photos from the hottest celebrities such as Kate Upton and Jennifer Lawrence were leaked into the internet underground and made their way onto social media shortly after. It was also discovered that Kate's boyfriend Justin Verlander may have been cheating on her with other women, judging by the numerous pictures and videos of women leaked from his phone.

The pictures have spread through social media platforms such as reddit and 4chan

/r/Thefappening and the /b/ have been the engines in which has propelled this event into history.
