noun, pl. sand gingers, a term referring to a person of naturally red colored hair, possessing a surprisingly dark complexion; persons of non-white heritage with red hair may or may not be referred to as a sand ginger depending on regional differences. usually used as a term of self-identification amongst sand gingers and is rarely used as a a racial slur by non-sand gingers
