Voice test

A phrase used in Livejournal roleplaying circles to mean playing a character in a low-key, stress-free environment for the purpose of discerning how well one can play said character. Here, "voice" or "character voice" is shorthand for how in-character a player is.

"I'm posting with Cloud on dear_mun as a voice test. Here goes nothing!"

marshmallow test

The marshmallow test, tests a children’s willingness to delay gratification. Sort of a self administered positive feedback for delaying gratification. Children get a marshmallow, with the opportunity to get a second marshmallow if they wait 15 minutes before eating the first one.

During the Covid-19 Pandemic the marshmallow test is misaligned for most who don't think they can get it. If they delay gratification by social distance and wear a mask and wash hands and delaying certain activities where these things are not possible they don't get a extra marshmallow but they may get a few extra years of life and have a relative and friend a little longer.

The Stairs Test

A term used when writing Harry Potter fanfiction (mostly on Ao3) where a character finds out they're trans by going up the "wrong" stairs in the dorms of Hogwarts. The stairs only allow one gender to come up them (Male or female), and when a canonically Male character (primarily Harry) is able to go up the stairs in a fanfic, it serves to move the plot forward.

The hard of thinking individuals who test themselves daily to see if they are ill, usually with zero or common cold symptoms.

Test-tard: I better take my daily test
Normal person (tinfoil hat conspiracy nutter): But you don't have any symptoms and those are 96% inaccurate?
Test-tard: OMG positive test, I'm going to die I must self-isolate for 14 days and cancel Christmas and my holiday to keep safe
