robby joke

a) a joke that is only funny to the one who is telling it.
b) jokes that cause akward silence, until someone says that it was a robby joke, causing laughter.
c) humorous statement that has bad timing causing everyone to look around at each other to see if anyone finds humor in what was just said.

Steve: dude, emily, your mom is so hot.
Kevin: she is hotter than hot pockets out of the microwave! hahahahahaha
Steve: ...dude, no robby jokes. those are gay.

Unfunny Joke

A joke that is meant to be funny but isn't. It will often kill the atmosphere at parties and social events (Unfunny Joke conventions excluded).

The joke could be unfunny because it has no pay off, it is said in the wrong way or is too hard or complex for the audience to understand. Other reasons for the joke being unfunny is that it is blatantly plagiarised.

UNFUNNY JOKE EXAMPLE 1:

Q: What's the opposite of Progress?

A: Congress.

Q: What is Gandalf's grandad called?

A: Grandalf.

Manatee joke

a joke format popularized by Family Guy... usually involves little or tangential connection to the plot, and includes two or three unrelated references put together into an irreverent mini-scene. South Park's parody of Family Guy suggested that the show is written by manatees pushing around floating colored balls with cultural references written on them.

Peter Griffin: "this is worse than when Fonzie jumped his motorcycle over Kevin James"

TV Viewer: "that was a total manatee joke"

5th Person Joke

When a piece of literature is written in 3rd person, but switches to 2nd person tell a joke, thereby making the joke seem funnier and more realistic

"Bob was having a rough day, like the time you beat up your roommate just because he wouldn't let you have his pretzels."

Reader: HAHAHAHA!!! 5th Person Joke!

Ostrich Joke

A joke that makes sense, but isn't funny enough so that normal people will laugh at it. The term comes from the Family Guy episode "Ocean's Three and a Half" where Two and a Half Men is being filmed in front of a live ostrich.

Man 1:"Have you ever seen Two and a Half men? It's hilarious."

Man 2:"What the hell is wrong with you, that show isn't funny at all. Every joke is an ostrich joke."

inside joke

An inside joke is a joke only understood and funny to only two or more people or a specific group. No one else other than that group will understand the joke and when they do, they will almost always not find it funny. They are usually jokes where "you had to be there" to even find it remotely funny.

A group of friends are walking around at the mall.
Girl 1: Trash can!!
(group bursts out in laughter except for one other girl)
Girl 2: why's that funny?
Group: Inside joke...
Girl 2: Okay then...
