The car became popular after the release of a show called "Smokey And The Bandit". The Trans Am is driven by the main protagonist in that show. After that, another show released in 1982 called "Knight Rider"(Aka "K2000"). There was a AI operated car named "KITT" which was short for "Knight Industries Two Thousand". After these two TV shows, the car became extremely popular over the years. Production for this car stopped around the early 2000s.
