When a property starts out insanely popular, but then the general consensus is that it's not popular or not cool, and then later it's insanely popular again and (usually) stays that way

What "Minecraft: Bedrock Edition" used to be called for mobile devices. The PE stands for Pocket Edition, which honestly sounds like a much more applicable name than Bedrock. Thus, I will keep referring it to Pocket Edition.
Back then, Pocket Edition was basically a Lite version of Minecraft meant for on-the-go experiences. It was more for killing time (e.g. waiting for bus) than for actually getting invested in the game. Today however, the transition from PE to Bedrock Edition has basically turned the mobile game into full-fledged Minecraft (with some limitations of course).

Release 1.9 came out on February 29th, 2016. This update completely revamped the combat system. The most notable things from this update are shields, attack cooldowns and the difference in weapon damage (e.g, Axes).
Despite it being a decent update, it had killed the game for nearly 4 years, and had sparked a lot of debate in the community about whether it was better or worse than the previous combat system.
Although the debate has died down a lot with less people bringing it up for little to no reason, whenever it's brought up, many people make the argument that 1.9 Combat takes no skill, while 1.8 Combat takes no skill, despite both versions having completely different combat.
No resolution to these arguments are really made as both parties decide not to think about the information the person they're arguing with says, or the flaws they point out about their preferred combat version. It is one of, if not the most controversial update in Minecraft history, besides the Beta 1.8 update, which was disliked due to the game having a main objective rather than being an endless survival game.

Minecrafter Withdrawal, also known as Minecraft Withdrawal or Minecrafter Withdrawal Syndrome (MWS*), is a mental condition that occurs when a Minecraft player (see Minecrafter) either willingly or nonwillingly such as not being able to play it does not play Minecraft for a long period of time. This may be days, months or even years. Symptoms include excessive boredom, increased desire to play Minecraft, (more so in the unwilling cases) and potential sadness and/or aggression.
*MWS is not to be confused with Cosbino's definition of the same word, which is here: Minecraft Withdrawal Syndrome.
