A cross fade is when you get a happy fade, and do something mean to it. For example, punching it in the nose, or insulting it's mother. It's also a type of fade used in movies, but that's different.
He was a very happy man, but then the scene crossfaded into a cross fade joining the area. It ruined the mood.
