Socrates

A person who asks questions to what seeminglycan not be answered. Reasons for these can be:

A. They wish to incite questioning within their conversation partner.

B. They genuinely are curious, stupid and/or foolish.

The word is a reference to the greek philosopher Socrates, who was known to question every answer he got.
Nobody knows if he was secretly being next level or if he was just being a dumb shit.

Either way, everyone got tired of his bullcrap.
A.

Adam: "Why are you a christian?"
Dave: "Because i believe in god."
Adam: "Why do you believe in god?"
Dave: "I see what you're doing here, Adam. Quit being such a Socrates and get back to work."

B.
Kjetil: "Who put my name on urban dictionairy
Steven: "Stop being a fucking socrates, dipshit."

Adversarial Socraticism

Using Socratic-style questioning in bad faith to force an opponent onto permanent defense. Involves nitpicking definitions, edge cases, and hypotheticals until hesitation or nuance is made to look like confusion, stupidity, or defeat. Commonly used in online debates.
