Swag

1. A word used among those who think they are the hottest and coolest person in the world, but are actually total duchebags. It is often used as a noun, as they seem to think they have it.

2. Free stuff like the samples you get at Costco. In this case, swag stands for Stuff We Aquired as Gifts. It is okay to use swag in this context.
1. Duchebag: 'Ay man, look at dis new hat I got.
Asshole: Nice! We've got some serious swag!

2. Mother: Kids! We're going to Costco!
Kids: Yay! Let's go get some swag!

Swag

From what I can see swag breaks down like this: back in the 1600s swag meant goods gained by theft, or booty. I saw the word rise again in a similar form in the late 80s when people would get cool little free gifts or promo stuff for attending conferences. After this swag split into to categories. Free promo items, pins, and the second category was more things gotten for free for attending things. at Wow cons there was often rare and incredible swag given only to those in attendance, so gamers began to associate the word swag with rare or really awesome freebies. From there swag moved on to a replacement for anything cool or awesome. The whole swag meaning secretly we are gay thing, well I'm pretty sure that's just gay dudes wishing all the hot pirate dudes in movies were secretly gay. yes, pirates used the word swag as well as booty, I can understand the confusion what with booty being used but that's another misunderstood word for another time
Aaar matey we be gettin some swag worth havin from the pillaging of this unguarded fort.

SWAG

It has been traced back to 1640, where it's used to refer to "hansom swag fellowes." It refers to stylish confidence. It is a derivative of the word "swagger", (rather than the "swag" that is a reference to free loot, and this use is NOT an acronym for any words.) It refers to a confident attitude or manner.
