They tend to get involved romantically with someone that is in that State. Because of their ties to California, they would rather not be in the new State. So after warming up to their prey, they decide to break their heart and leave. After leaving they try to deny all feelings they expressed in that State as if nothing ever happened. Resulting in emotional distress in both the Californian and the prey.
