Get the Saiyara mug.A Super Saiyan is a Saiyan that has gone beyond their limits through training. The Super Saiyan transformations yields a 50x increase in power with each level. Goku is the first to achieve this level. Any saiyan with enough power can transform with sufficient emotional need (usually the pain of loss).
There are 4 different super saiyan levels:
1. Super saiyan
1a., Ascended Super saiyan, achieved by sacrificing a bit a speed for a large power increase, 1b; Ultra Super Saiyan, sacrificing more speed for an even bigger increase in power. Both states requires going beyond normal super saiyan limits.
2. Super Saiyan 2: This state is achieved when a saiyan goes beyond his natural super saiyan limits, and the user is enraged enough to achieve this transformation; usually through the pain of loss.
3. Super Saiyan 3: This state is achieved when a super saiyan 2 has surpassed it's natural limits and a deeper power buried far within is available. Takes a lot of practice to transform quickly. It requires an immense amount of power to sustain, and constantly drains the users energy.
4. Super Saiyan 4: The pinnacle of Saiyan power, this state is achieved when the user is transformed into a Golden Great Ape (A super saiyan who transforms at the full moon) and becomes conscious of his new power. As with all super saiyan transformation, the user's power is increased 50 fold.

A super saiyan 3's physical attributes are of long golden hair, no eyebrows, a more mean looking face, and golden electrical aura that surroundes them. Their love of fighting is only surpassed by their pride. They originally inhabited a planet named Vegeta (Bejiita-sei), however it was destroyed by a space tyrant named Freeza.
Only four Saiya-jin survived the destruction of the planet. They were Kakarotto (known as Son Goku), Vegeta, Raditz and Nappa. If you wish to include the feature movies, also Turles, Paragus and Broly. They look exactly the same as a regular human, except for the monkey tail they usually have wrapped around the waist. A Saiya-jin is far stronger than a human and are able to concieve children, though the offspring retain much of the Saiya-jin strength and perhaps beyond.
At the end of the series, Goku, Vegeta and Gohan could generally have been the most powerful beings in the entire universe, surpassing any of the Kaioushin, the very Gods themselves. A Saiya-jin has the ability to transform into a more powerful version of themselves. This includes the Ouzaru transformation (a giant monkey with the Saiya-jin's base power multiplied by ten times - this is able to be reached by any Saiya-jin with a tail by looking at the full moon) and of course the legendary form of the Super Saiya-jin.
The mythical Super Saiya-jin appeared 1000 years ago, and the tranformation dwindled to a legend with the expansion of the Saiya-jin race. However when Goku confronts Freeza on Namek-sei...
