Route one

Route one means to drive a football towards an opponent's goal by a long kick upfield from the rear.

The technique is denigrated as an unattractive ploy by weak teams who lack the skill or confidence to move the ball along the field by talented play between team mates.

The long boot or "welly" by a goalkeeper or defending player bypasses many of the opposing players who may be dangerously skilful. It can be seen a shot in the dark, a hopeful search for a member of one's own team far upfield.

The goal came by route one; it wasn't pretty, but it counted just the same.

Square Rooter

Somebody who only looks out for themselves. They will do whatever they have to do, to make sure they come out on top. They will hurt anyone in the way. It always comes back to themselves winning.

Tommy, wouldn't train with the guys cuz he said his truck needed repair, so he would stay back and fix the truck while his boys sweat in the 100+ degree summer training. Tommy really square rooted his way out of this one.

Fritz doesn't like to work on holidays. So he calls in sick weeks before and stays out the whole time. He thinks because he does it 2 weeks prior that he has more ground to stand on, but everyone knows he was gonna do that because he's a square rooter.

Long Route Syndrome

When someone takes an unusually long route to reach their destination.

Person 1: So i'm gonna cut through 42nd street, back down to 48th, do circles in the parking lot and drive Miss Daisy through this neighborhood.

Person 2: How about you just take a left here and we'll be there?

Person 1: Que?

Person 2: You seriously have Long Route Syndrome.
