When Mayor Booker was at Stanford University, he would post two or three things on a whiteboard in his dorm room, and that would be his focus. Nothing, he told the FOCUS 100 Symposium, would stop him from focusing on it. It is this kind of focus and determination that helps him run an entire city and the tech startup #WayWire at the same time Mayor Booker advises that you need to feel a core sense of purpose in whatever it is you do in order to succeed. Blocking out distracting factors like ego, vanity, or anything else, will serve to boost your getting there quicker.
.When things distract you—and the biggest distraction is often ego, vanity—centrality of focus to me has been one of the best things I’ve learned in my life.”

Expected Gratification Outcome
The process in which one overspends on a material item to make one's self feel much more worthy in relation to amount they spent. (i.e. feeding one's ego). Ego is not the actual self perception, but in fact the expected gratification one feels they deserve.

The way to a man's heart is not stroking his ego, the way to a six year old boys heart is. A six year old boyfriend is fun though.
Which one of us do you love honey me or the six year old? I have the bigger ego, that's intense of me.

Girl- We tell those guys they are more talented than they are.
Playing up to somebody's ego only works when the other person doesn't question the bullshit the one trying to play up to their ego is trying to feed them (hears someone say they are talented and doesn't question it, just buys it).
