Get the bed of roses mug.Easily one of the top 5 bands of the last 20 years, if not the best. To lump them in with '80s hair metal is to do them a disservice. Guns n' Roses is a hard rock band. Best known for the songs "November Rain" and "Welcome To The Jungle," their first album Appetite For Destruction is the best selling debut of all time. The intro guitar riff for "Sweet Child o Mine" is recognized as one of the greatest ever. The band formed in LA in 1985, playing the Hollywood clubs before being signed. Their original lineup was:
W.Axl Rose - Vocals
Slash - Lead Guitar
Izzy Stradlin - Rhythm Guitar
Duff McKagan - Bass Guitar
Steven Adler - Drums
Adler was replaced by Matt Sorum from The Cult, and Gilby Clarke replaced Izzy when he left. Dizzy Reed was added for keyboard duty.
The band was effectively broken up by 1995 or possibly before, with most members pursuing other projects and Axl carrying on the Guns n' Roses name with a new cast of musicians. Slash, Duff, and Matt formed Velvet Revolver with Scott Weiland (ex STP).
It is music's great loss that the band collapsed under the weight of its member's egos, as many predicted that they could have been this generation's Rolling Stones. Perhaps an unlikely Aerosmith-type reunion could still occur, but if not, Guns n' Roses' music will stand the test of time and serve as a testament to the brilliance they showed during their '87-'93 heydey.

Do yourself a favor and check out "Rocket Queen," one of Guns n' Roses' lesser known gems. The style shift in the guitar work toward the end of the song is excellent and totally seamless...

Get the fresh cut roses mug.It is a metaphor for the senselessness of war, or of a specific battle which really didn't accomplish much, which is all just "guns and roses". Guns are the tools, and roses for the graves. Really quite simple. Apparently, the metaphor was completely lost on the fucking masses, who didn't gather the meaning by simply looking at the album art for Appetite for Destruction, which was littered with comic illustration of "alien invaders" raping and pillaging humanity.
I immediately understood this when I was introduced to the band AT THE AGE OF FIVE. I confirmed it with my father, who was the son of a veteran, a veteran himself, and a published poet with a master's in English.
Goddamn, I never saw brilliance in the name of the band. Honestly, they took it too far. But whatever, they made money. What shreds my soul is that people don't even REALIZE what the phrase means, and instead turns into a fucking GnR, Black Sabbath, and Bon Jovi?! pissing contest.

Get the guns and roses mug.One of the most popular bands of the early 1990s that featured lead singer Ian Brown, John Squire on guitar, Mani on bass, and Reni on drums . The Roses burst onto the Mancunian music scene with their debut album, 'The Stone Roses', released in 1989. The band's sound was marked by enigmatic lyrics filled with Biblical references coupled with dance-influenced riffs. (A now-infamous book, 'ONELOVESTORY', has been written ont he topic that the Stone Roses set out to rule the world and herald the second coming of the Messiah.) However, feuds between band members escalated soon after they released their second and final album 'Second Coming' in 1994. The band more or less ended on April Fools Day of the next year, and Oasis and The Verve went on to succeed the Roses as the next kings of British rock.
