NATO is a stupid ass declining military alliance that in the modern day leaves countries to fend for themselves whilst in the 1950s to the early 90s if a communist or Russian threat in NATO or not they will save your ass, not anymore. and they will save some stupid middle eastern country Kuwait, but not a nation that sells tons of electricity to Europe.

'Nato' is generally a term used when a boy likes partying on a sunday morning as apposed to your usual saturday nights. He is relatively clumsy too - he's the boy who might fall off a balcony for no apparent reason. Nato is derived from the Latin word 'Natogalia' which means 'to bump your head.'

Slang term for the 5.56x45mm NATO rifle cartridge. Do not use the term NATO 5 with fanatics, it's just not smart.
Doesn't the H&K G36 shoot NATO 7s?
No dude, NATO 5s.

Slang term for the 7.62x51mm NATO rifle cartridge. NATO 7 is not for use with gun nuts, as they will freak out like a coke head given powdered sugar as a present.

The 5.56x45mm NATO round is a micro-caliber rifle round based upon the .223 Remington loading. In the US military, it is known as the M855A1 in it's most recent incarnation. In the rest of the world the 5.56x45mm NATO is known as the SS109.

Originally, the 5.56x45mm was designed with two goals in mind: Incapacitation, and weight reduction. The round was designed to wound a soldier, rather than kill them outright like the 7.62x51mm NATO round that came before it, as it would take two more soldiers out of the fight to take care of them.

Not only this, but the 5.56x45mm NATO is shorter and lighter than the 7.62x51mm NATO round that was it's predecessor, allowing troops to carry more ammunition.
The 5.56x45mm NATO round, also called the SS109, is the most commonly used Military-issue rifle round in the western world. However, it's usefulness has deteriorated against an enemy that does not value their lives, nor the lives of their comrades.
