A strange feeling of discomfort and agony that occurs when a piece of media (be it a song, a movie, a videogame, a book, etc.) that you are extremely fond of which was once relatively unknown to the general public suddenly becomes extremely mainstream via social media or some other means of publicity, thus kinda ruining the personal connection you had made with that piece of media.
*End of Beginning by Djo plays quietly in the background from a small Bluetooth speaker*
"Man, I used to really like Napoleon Dynamite but then everyone started quoting it all the time."
'Same here man, that's a classic case of The Djo Effect.'

Me: You'll never believe who just added me on snapchat after 3 years of silence
Friend: Weren't we just talking about him the other day?
Me: I knew we shouldn't have said his name! it's the bell effect!

Joe: Have you seen the news? There's a new album from that brazillian musician I told you about.
João: Oh, we know that guy, we don't really give it to his music.
Joe: It must be Woody Woodpecker Effect, 'cuz his songs SLAP! I've shown it to all my friends here in England and they loved it!

This fear could reside in nightmares, resurfacing of old fears from your childhood, etc. This term stems from my huge fear of Maleficent as a kid, and how when I woke up early in the morning, went to the living room, and would see the cover for the Maleficent movie DVD, I'd be scared out of my mind. It caused me to hide under blankets on the floor because I thought I saw her shadow and cast away anything that had Maleficent on it. The thing was, I was the one who wanted the DVD because we saw a bit of it at a drive-in, and I didn't get to see the full movie, so I ultimately became terrified of something I was deeply interested in.
Someone: "Dude... I started hyperfixating on Carrie like a month ago, and now, at the slightest mention of Carrie, I get nightmares, and my fear of the dark comes back. My dad had to take away the book and tell me to stop watching stuff about Carrie because of how scared I'd get."
Someone Else: "Yeah, sounds like the Maleficent DVD effect man."
Someone: "Huh?"
Someone Else: "Basically a fear of a specific fictional character that you like."
Someone: "Oh."
