I know there are a lot of definitions for emo but most of them suck and make fun of emos. An emo is someone who hates themselves and puts themselves down, they feel more emotion than anyone writing these sucky definitions. They can't control their pain so that makes them feel as though they have to hurt themselves even more. It's like feeling like shit and wanting to get drunk, instead of getting drunk they chose to cut or burn themselves. They think that everyone hates them and they don't deserve to live and a lot of emos will end up killing themselves. Take this from someone who's gone through this before, it's not just a genre of music or something to be made fun of, it's a real thing mostly associated with depression. And It's not that they don't feel emotion, they feel too much emotion and it overwhelms them.

Being a realist and a dreamer at the same time. Causing a constant state of tug of war in your mind. You understand what is and isn't realistic, yet you can't seem to throw away your dreams. Distress occurs.
Jk thats just what i think is. - Sincerely, Very emo person who just thought of this

A sexual encounter where you’re dressed in your emo best while enjoying deep penetration doggy style and screaming “choke me daddy!”

A genre of rock music that emerged in the 1990s and got popular in the underground music community through bands like Sunny Day Real Estate, Cap'n Jazz and Mineral among others. The genre is characterized by introspective, confessional lyrics, emotive vocals and indie rock-esque instrumentation.
With the beginning of the 21st century, emo started to die out as people were mislabeling pop-punk bands such as My Chemical Romance and Dashboard Confessional as emo. However, the genre has seen a sort of revival in recent years, with bands like The Hotelier, Sorority Noise and Foxing getting more popular in indie circles.
The word is also used to describe a certain lifestyle, however this is not related to actual emo music.
