hamburger melodeath

An americanized form of melodic death metal combining said genres with elements of groove metal and metalcore. Typical traits of this genre include predominantly harsh vocals (although cleans can make an apperance), syncopated rhythms and heavy riffing reliant somewhat less reliant of melody and leads and more reliant on rhythm. Most of the original Gothenburg melodeath bands ended up switching to this sound in the mid 00s (In Flames, Soilwork was a great example)

Examples include: DevilDriver, Lamb of God (some songs), Sylosis, 2000s Soilwork, Later In Flames

Gaia-Medea Hypothesis

An ecological-evolutionary theory that expands on the original Gaia Hypothesis (Earth as a self-regulating system). It proposes that planetary biospheres possess not just homeostatic (Gaia) tendencies, but also self-destructive or "self-culling" (Medea) mechanisms as inherent traits of complex life. Named after the mythological Medea who killed her own children, it posits that life, in its success, inevitably creates conditions for its own mass extinction (e.g., oxygen pollution by cyanobacteria, climate change from industrialization). This isn't an external punishment, but a built-in evolutionary dynamic where dominant species or metabolic pathways eventually destabilize the very system that birthed them.

Example: The original Gaia Hypothesis saw early cyanobacteria producing oxygen as a life-giving act. The Gaia-Medea Hypothesis reframes it: cyanobacteria were the first "Medean" organisms, releasing a toxic waste product (oxygen) that caused a mass extinction of anaerobic life (the Great Oxygenation Event). Humanity's fossil fuel consumption is not an anomaly, but a predictable "Medean" phase: a highly successful species (us) using a dominant metabolic pathway (combustion) that threatens the biosphere's stability. The hypothesis suggests intelligence may be a planet's ultimate Medean trait—a tool for both unprecedented regulation and unprecedented self-destruction.

A retroactively amended purchase experience is when a company changes the terms of the sale, after the sale. Companies can do this nowadays because most of us use cloud software, otherwise known as SaaS, Software as a Service. Since we have to connect to someone else's computer to USE our software, they have the ability to deny us access to this software without accepting new terms, that they can change on us at any given time. Since consumer protection in the United States is a joke, they face no consequences for doing so.

An example of this can be found with Adobe when they changed the terms of the sale to include terms allowing them to look through your content.

Or when Adobe took software you paid for, and disallowed you from activating it. perpetual licenses are not perpetual licenses as long as you must connect to someone else's computer to use what you paid for.

I really liked my $400 baby monitor, but now I have to pay extra for features it came with because the company did a R(etroactively) A(mended) P(urchase) E(xperience). I feel RAPEd!
