When you live in Louisiana or Houston, TX, the swamplands of America, and call around for contractors for various needs, and get outrageous and pulled right out their behind prices for the same job in the same market and get low and highs that are 2x or 4x each other and the lows are still a rip off, like $2500 for replacing a 32ft sewer line when one offers to do the digging part as an investor ourselves and have the master plumber supervise the actual parts where the pipe that is trashed needs to be replaced.
Or anything else, fencing, grading, drainage, you name it and in this swampland you will get screwed with froggy prices.

Customer/investor: Hi contractor, quote me a 7" cedar fence
Contractor: $13000 (when the labor cost and material cost is covered under $5000, perhaps a lot lower)
Investor: Your swamp ass and your froggy prices. GTFO

When in the midst of parenthood, this is the "price" associated with letting your kid do whatever they're doing that would normally annoy the living piss out of you in order to obtain a brief solace to accomplish any sort of meaningful task you've set out to do.
Think of it in this context:
Your 4 year old is outside flinging mud against the house. They're preoccupied, and normally you don't want your kid caking your house in mud. However, maybe you're talking with a neighbor or doing yard work. You want to keep doing that thing because the kid is distracted for a bit.
If we think about the situation pretty simplistically, you can either:
A) Yell at them to stop, whereby they'll likely find something equally as irritating or perhaps dangerous to do while you're still engaged in whatever you were doing.
B) Let them keep doing it and stay distracted for an undetermined amount of time, hopefully a while.
So once you're basically weighing how disruptive your kid's activity is versus the bit of time you'll receive to do what you need to do.

Person 1: Yesterday Timmy was flinging gravel across the yard all over the damn place.
Person 2) Is that why my damn window is broken?
Person 1) Yeah, but you know, it was the price of peace. At least I was able to finish up the deck.

Similar to the "Soup Kitchen" - When a group of homeless people have an orgy in a car- with the distinct difference of the activity occurring under a bridge and surrounded by grocery carts and tarps. A healthy dose of sweaty homeless juices make getting traction a concern.

Back in ye olden day, the tedious job of making lace was hard work. Creating the most beautiful and delicate work required dexterous hands (usually women in that time, let’s be honest), but could only be sold by men as only they had the right to own a business. Women literally worked their fingers to the bone, eventually losing feeling or gaining pain in their hands from carpal tunnel, arthritis, and ligament or nerve damage. During the height of the lace fad, women were not recognized for their work, only the men they worked for, but we’re able to gain a higher-than-average wage for the times. Thus, “the price of lace” became a euphemism for what one pays in hard work and perseverance for a slight gain.

When someone is hurt, and you try to make him feel better by saying he is the real price, not she/he
