School Board Special

Used to describe a firearm that is incredibly inept at performing its primary duty. Named after the Florida School Board shooting, in which a gunman shot repeatedly at said members without striking one. However, it did work at very close range, e.g., the shooter's head.

Similar to a Saturday Night Special, but not nearly as effective.

Dude, some idiot got shot by the cops while robbing a liquor store with a School Board Special!

I've really been wanting to buy a nice handgun, but I don't have the funds. There's a school board special on sale at the gun store, so I guess I'll have to settle for that.

Some crazy kid tried to pass off his airsoft as a school board special to his friends at school.

Group of coworkers/carpoolers that, while subordinate in rank to just about every other person in a company, knows exactly how the company should be run, who's incompetent, lazy or genius, who should be fired, etc. Highly sensitive to fairness, tardiness, language. If only the powers that be would consult them, the company would flourish. . .

Federal Reserve Board

(US GOVERNMENT) one of two governing boards of the US Federal Reserve System (the Usonian Central Bank). The FRB consists of seven governors appointed by the White House to staggered terms of 14 years.

Governor appointments are subject to Senate confirmation.

The FRB sets monetary policy. Its seven members also serve on the other governing board of the Fed, the FOMC. However, the FRB has sole responsibility for discount rates and reserve requirements, and it is also responsible for enforcement of banking regulation.

Despite the fact that the Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board has the same power as the other six governors, most people have only heard of Alan Greenspan (1987-2006) or Ben Bernanke (2006-present). About the same time, Susan M. Phillips (1991-1998) held approximately equal power on the Board; so did Roger W. Ferguson, Jr. (1997-2006).

Because governors almost never serve their full terms, there are currently only five governors on the board. The two longest-serving members, Bernanke and Vice Chair Donald Kohn, have only been there since August 2002.

Pelican Board

An internet forum for pelicans where they can discuss serious subjects such as the human disturbance of their nesting colonies, mortalities resulting from being caught on fish hooks or entangled in monofilament line or share more light-hearted anectdotes (which mostly involve fish). They also use it to arrange illegal pelican raves and post blurry pictures of their delicately built lower jaws that consist of two thin and weakly articulated bones from which their pouches hang.

In real life Bill the penguin was an unassuming geek but on The Pelican Board he was an unassuming geek that knew the URL of Google and how to copy and paste.
