First of all, we're not those people who say: Okay i'm gonna do this to look cool. We're the type of people who do this for a real meaning. To express emotional pain and depression. I know this because i'm emo myself, as i've used first person pronouns. Second, don't associate us with skaters, goths, and scenes. My girlfriend is a scene and I know the difference. Anyways, we like darker colors. Black, red, purple, whatever. You may think our style of music is crazy, but it really isn't. We're not loners. Emos have friends too. We're not forever alone. We get dates too. So quit hating on us. Okay? Okay. We don't cut for sympathy. We cut for a reason. Same as why we're even emo.

With the beginning of the 21st century, emo started to die out as people were mislabeling pop-punk bands such as My Chemical Romance and Dashboard Confessional as emo. However, the genre has seen a sort of revival in recent years, with bands like The Hotelier, Sorority Noise and Foxing getting more popular in indie circles.
The word is also used to describe a certain lifestyle, however this is not related to actual emo music.

Get the emomug. A true emo is a girl or guy who feels things times a hundred than most others. They are labeled as sensitive most of the time. They feel everything deeply and a true emo is one of the kindest people you'll ever meet. They wear black most of the time, may have a piercing or two l, they are vocal about their feelings and may talk about their feelings publicly. They love music , take pride in their appearance, and a true emo is usually somebody who is pissed off by their own demons, they usually have an above average desire for friendship, though may be too shy so they stay by themselves. True emos are usually very feminine whether it's a girl or guy.

Get the Emo whine babymug. Emo is used to describe a person thats in this hole called depression. Girls cut their hair short. Guys grow their hair out. They also wear black and band merch. They also listen to bands like My Chemical Romance, Twenty One Pilots, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, etc. Some emos cut and kill themselves.
