Fauxgress

Technological advancement that actually diminishes utility / usability compared to what it replaced.

Favoured in particular by technology companies desperate for people to upgrade their devices, they will add on all sorts of flashy new functionality which at best is useless, and at worst is actually less functional than the prior version (see: the removal of the headphone jack on smartphones).

"Man, the face-unlock on this new phone is total fauxgress - it makes me move my phone in front of my face whenever I want to unlock it; thumbprint unlock was way more simple"

A moment where you think you look great, only to realise later that it wasn’t as good as you thought.
