A really interesting word. Although internet searches are dominated by Yiddish for spank, or the name of a duff opal; actually this term 'potch' seems to have its own colloquial meaning and nothing firm formally anywhere. Potch seems to have a life of its own; meaning different things to different people and every area has its own definition; would welcome people responding with their own ownership of the word to build a record of its use.
