basically anime is just japanese cartoons that Americans say is "trash" when anime has several genres and different themes-just like cartoons. The distinctive features that anime actually have are realistic animation, a storyline-unlike most cartoons where it is just random episodes, and Japanese customs in the shows. Overall Anime is different from cartoons but when people say it is "trash" they usually call it trash for the wrong reasons.

Dude1:Hey dude do you watch anime?
Dude2:What? No, anime is trash it makes no sense.
Dude1:There are different genres so what you said makes no sense.
Dude2:It is just trash, I have nothing more to say
Dude1:can you at least tell me why it is trash?

the best form of animation ever!!! If you don't like anime, you're probably a closed-minded idiot with no real reason to hate it. What's not to like, I mean, the plots are profound and dramatic, the girls are HOT!!! and there is usually a lot of violence and sexuality. Content aside, the graphics are good and the characters are usually broad and creative! I like anime, I don't give a shit if you don't, fool!

Gundam and Inuyasha are anime.
