Wilson Effect

The phenomenon of heightened human receptiveness to humour during the act of consuming water (or any drink). Supposedly first documented in the 1920s by British neurologist Samuel Alexander Kinnier Wilson, who noted the increased likelihood of choking and/or spillage owing to exposure to comedy stimuli while sipping/swigging/supping.
Alan: Hey, you know how everything's funnier when you're taking a drink?
Brian: No..
Alan: Yeah, you know, the Wilson Effect. Watch this... Hey! Colin!
Colin: Yes? *Takes a sip of his beverage*
Alan: Big fat cocks!!
Colin: *Splort!* You idiot! You made me slop my drink and a little bit went up my nose! That wasn't even funny!
Brian: Ah yes, the Wilson Effect.

mermaid effect

When a guy has been hanging out with, or simply in the presence of a girl that is just a friend for long enough that she ends up becoming sexually desirable.

Based on the idea of sex-starved sailors who would see manatees frequently and eventually they began to see them as mermaids.

It was also used in the TV show How I Met Your Mother.
Guy 1: "So you're going to be rooming with a chick next year? watch out for the mermaid effect, if you hang out with her long enough, you know you'll end up wanting to hit that."

Guy 2: "Nah man, she isn't hot and totally isn't my type."

Guy 1: "I give it three months."

The Ward Effect

a mythical presence that is best described by females - they enter a room feeling normal, and are suddenly overcome by an unexplainable yearning to spend every minute of every day in the company of Tom Ward.
Those that are lucky enough (and there aren't many) to have a force-field to protect against the effect generally find that said force-field is worn down and all but destroyed by the 4th drink, thereby rendering them as powerless as any normal female.
There are no long term side effects from being struck by the Ward effect, but for the entire time that you are in in his company rest assured that you will, indeed, be struck
"I thought I'd switched the filter on, but she's definitely been struck by the Ward Effect"

Google Effect

Google Effect - When a Politician is proven by the Internet to be a LIAR within 15 seconds of when he lies on a 30 second TV sound bite.

The Google Effect is feared by all polititions because it gives people of the oppisite view the chance to disprove the of other sides claim.

The Google Effect impowers Media Watch Dog Groups on both sides of the political spectrum Especially since it improves their chances of getting their dissenting views read by other people.
Despite the best Efforts by the Federal Branch to cover up their domestic spying program they failed due to the Google Effect.
