The bias treats the mind as a fortress that, once a single non‑scientific idea is admitted, will be overrun by irrationality. It ignores the human capacity for compartmentalization, the contextual nature of belief, and the reality that many people simultaneously hold scientific views and personal spiritual practices without descending into anti‑vaxx or flat‑earth beliefs. The scientific slippery slope is often deployed as a rhetorical weapon to police intellectual boundaries, treating any deviation from strict scientific orthodoxy as a threat to reason itself.
