verbal shrug

that ‘uhh’ or ‘ehh’ sound - complete with rising inflection - when someone doesn’t particularly know how to respond. can be accompanied by an actual, physical shrug

usually quicker than a non-verbal shrug. and able to be used in semi-constrained scenarios like in the back of an uber

i asked B when school goes back, and they just gave a verbal shrug

how on earth did you make that basket ? he responded with a verbal shrug

When you ask your wife or girlfriend for sex/sexual favors, and they are like "fine" while rolling her eyes.

Patrick rolls over and says to his wife "Hey, you know the kids are asleep" and she responds with an exasperated "Fine". Then Patrick says "I'll take a Soft Verbal".

Verbertia

Inertia of the mouth. The inability to stop talking once one has started, often including the verbertia itself in the torrent of words. Could also apply to the inability to *start* talking again once you've stopped (usually while taking a dramatic pause during a speech).

"I just meant to answer the question with 'I'm having a nice day, thanks,' but verbertia set in, and I ended up telling her my whole life story from DNA up until that afternoon."
