A German term that originated in the northern regions of Hamburg that refers to erratic and often "trainwreck" style behavior from a middle aged man. A Jan can take on many forms, but often appears in the form of coffee addiction, intern harassment, STD spread, an inflated sense of convenience, and child like aversion to common things such as balloons, rubber bands, cilantro, and condoms.

When you see a person posting something socially popular online to get Likes but with the real intention of shining a spotlight on themselves, they are a Jan. Jan’s follow and post about popular or politically motivated trends, usually within the echo chambers of their own tribes. They live for the Likes. The Likes give them meaning and purpose in life. They are especially careful about photos posted of themselves and make sure that they are crafted to bring attention to themselves.
