Kabki comes from the Persian word kabk (or kaw in kurdish) which describes a species of birds known in English as Chukar - Partridge. These birds are found predominantly around the mountainous regions of Kurdistan.

Kabki is most often used as a surname. Those associated with the name are descendants from a well admired and talented hunter in the region of Musalan, a Kurdish village in northwestern Iran.
