Was a category 5 hurricane with winds in access of 170 MPH at first, but weakened before landfall to a strong category 4. Flooded 4/5 of new orleans, and wiped out many small communities along the coastline. Hundreds dead or missing. One of the worst hurricanes to hit the U.S. in recent history.
