The word ‘gay’ was used in Middle English to describe something that is attractive, showy, or merry (used to describe a person’s feelings). The sense ‘homosexual’ is first used in 1950s, and the noun is first used in 1971. For a teen slang meaning, bad, stupid and foolish was first used in 2000s. However, this pejorative use is considered offensive by many people, especially homosexuals.
Usually, young people use ‘that’s gay’ to express dislike, lame etc.
Okay all jokes aside, gay means someone who is attracted to someone else of the same sex or gender. Typically, gay is used for men who are attracted to other men, but can sometimes be used for women too, except a woman who is attracted to another woman is generally called lesbian. Now u are more enlightened on homosexuality!! :DD
Guy 1: *kissing guy 2*
Guy 2: *kissing Guy 1*
Random dude: "THATS HELLA GAY!!"
Guy 1 and 2: "Damn right it is" *Keeps kissing*
1. Merry, jolly
2. Bright, showy, colourful
3. Homosexual 4. (Informal and usually offensive) Bad, lame, uncool. (Used by young people, as an antonym of senses 1-2)
Note: Sense 4 can be offensive to many people, especially gay man. This sense has been harshly criticised by many homosexuals. As a noun, gay is usually considered offensive as a noun rather than an adjective
