Pigeon’s Hit

A Pigeon’s Hit is a term used in golf where the player ends up shooting double whatever par is on that particular hole. For example, if the hole is a par 3, and you shoot a six, you’ve got the Pigeon’s Hit. Traditionally earned by the novice golfer, a person who is considered easy to beat and an easy target for gambling.

‘Damn, Joey! Stacking strokes on that last hole! What did you end up with?’
‘Doubled down on that par and ended up with the Pigeon’s Hit!’

Hit by a Tree scenario

A scenario, usually brought up at work, in which a tree falls ontop of you the next day.

Usually this is brought up to force you to document your work, so others can continue/finish it if something would happen to you, whether this is you actually dying or you getting replaced by someone cheaper.

Alice: "I just pushed IEEE 802.11mc to the main repo, there is still a lot of work to do."
Bob: "Don't forget the hit by a Tree scenario"

Shit hit the fan

"When the shit hits the fan" is the vulgar and more satisfying term for a situation that suddenly gets messy. It gives you an idea of just how messy a situation by comparing it to being in a small room when a handful of loose feces are launched into the spinning fan blades.

1: When that silly old bitch pranged John's prized Mercedes in the parking lot and then tried to take off, shit really hit the fan. I though he was gonna kill her.

2: Where's our fucking money?! You better have it, or the shit is gonna hit the fan, believe you me!!

3: I lost everything back in 2008 when the shit hit the fan. Just like a lot of people.
