A German hot dog that is not to be eaten but instead revered and honored on a plate for a total of 30 days before being given to a dog to eat. This is practiced by about half of all the German population in the Neujahrstag, or New Years Day festivities.

Be careful not to eat the fertich, otherwise you will experience bad luck!
