A “bate” is a date where the primary intent is a casual hookup or a one-night stand. Unlike a “plate,” where there is little expectation, a “bate” is more direct in its purpose. The term plays on the phonetic swap from “date” to “bate” (a nod to the slang for masturbation), emphasizing its sexual nature. A date can start as a standard “date” and naturally turn into a “bate.”
