A phrase only used by Christians to people, generally other Christians, experiencing hardship. A statement implying action and assistance when in fact none will be forthcoming in any meaningful way. Represents vague promise to intercede with a magical being on the recipient's behalf. Used most often to end a conversation by the person saying it. Often ridiculed in social media as nonsense and hypocrisy, and misspoken as 'Thots and pears'.
I don't want to say 'you should have had your whole family vaccinated' at the funeral. I'll say 'thoughts and prayers' and then talk about the weather.

Common social media reply to posts about dead people when there is, in fact, no thoughts and no prayers. And if there is, they last about 2 seconds.

A phrase used to show support for somebody going through a hard time. It's been adopted by uncaring and radical leftists as a perjorative by Godless heathens living with their parents, who despise the Constitution and the protection it provides American citizens. It's most commonly used as a derogatory phrase by liberals to make fun of people of faith.
"Did you hear a mentally deranged Bernie Sanders supporting liberal shot a bunch of unarmed Senators playing baseball?"
"Hahaha yeah that's funny, I'm sending my "thoughts and prayers". By the way could you ask your Mom to bring us some Cheesy Poofs next time she comes down to the basement?"
"Yeah. Hey let's smoke this bowl then go buy a new video game with your unemployment check"

Close to worthless well-wishing platitudes when real action and assistance could make a positive outcome difference.
So, Connor has cancer and his family is having a tough time making ends meet because he can't work.
Really? I'll be sure to light a candle for them at mass this Sunday.
Why don't you save your thoughts and fucking prayers for imaginary problems; they could actually use some help.

A phrase often used as an insincere or superficial gesture, implying concern without offering tangible support or action. This phrase is particularly used by public figures and officials, in response to tragedies or disasters.
“During the out-of-control wildfires in Jasper, Alberta, the premier, Danielle Smith, offered 'thoughts and prayers' to those who had lost their homes, but many residents felt this was an empty gesture without any real plan for recovery or assistance."
