furry

A furry is an anthropomorphic animal character. Some examples of anthropomorphic characters would be cartoon animals featured in animation, such as Mickey Mouse or Bugs Bunny. Some may also appear as mascots or advertising characters, like the Exxon Tiger or McGruff the Crime Dog. On the other end of the spectrum, furries can be talking animals featured in fairy tales, such as Aesop's Fables or literature, such as Watership Down.

The fans of anthropomorphic animal art and writing are also sometimes referred to as furries.

Furry fandom is defined as the appreciation, promotion, and production of stories and art about anthropomorphic animals, as well as the exploration, interpretation and examination of humanity and human values through anthropomorphic expression. There are about a dozen yearly furry conventions across the United States, which feature events such as art shows, discussion panels, and charity auctions.

furry

1. To be covered in fur; fluffy; fuzzy.

2. Furry fandom. This is where this definition becomes a full out rant.

Furry fandom is something widely controversed.

To cover the most general of definitions, a person who is interested in (Note that I said interested in, not is sexually attracted to) anthropomorphic animals.

Some people believe that you are only a "Furry fan" unless furry is a lifestyle for you.

Still others believe that even if you don't know the meaning of the fandom, if you like anthro animals then you're a furry. To each his own.

Personally, I think it's about choice.

Many furries create alter-egos/roleplay characters/ect. that are often called "fursonas". Y'know, furry personas?

A lot of people assume all sorts of strange things about people who call themselves furries. I have personal experiance with this one, folks.

Let me tell you something: We are NORMAL PEOPLE. Some us are male, some female, some straight, some gay, some have jobs, some don't. We are not all automatically people who have sex in animal costumes. There certainly ARE some people like this within the fandom, but don't act like we are all the same. If it worked that way, then because Shakespear is dead, and some frogs are dead, then Shakespear was a frog.

I hope I have helped you instead of wasted your time, but that's my two cents.
My cat is really furry, but he sheds a lot.

I like furry art.

furry

People who are interested in anthropomorphic animals (fictional or real).

There isn't anything wrong with this. They aren't faggots. The majority of furries are either gay, pansexual, or bisexual, but a lot are also straight. They are nice people who are just like normal people. In fact, they are normal themselves, but some people reject them in society. They perceive them wrongly. This word is used to describe a person who is in the fandom, with or without a furry suit. They may also enjoy porn that is induced in or consisting of anthropomorphized animals.

furry

The term "furry" means any anthropomorphized animal. They are also known as "funny animals," but this is an outdated term. Since a furry is an anthropomorphic version of an animal, we can determine what a furry character is by carefully defining our usage of "anthropomorphic".

By definition an object is "anthropomorphic" if it has been given human attributes; these usually include the capacity for rational thought, emotions, and an upright posture. An anthropomorphic animal, therefore is a hybrid that is somewhere between a human and the original species.

Examples of furries abound, and these can surely cement the concept for any readers that stopped to re-read the above paragraphs. Most cartoon characters are furries (e.g. Donald Duck, Wile E. Coyote, Pink Panther, Quickdraw McGraw, etc.). Many cartoon characters are quite removed from the actual animals; their charicatured forms still retain many animalistic traits, however, and this identifies them as furries.

Many comic book characters (e.g. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Omaha the Cat Dancer, Usagi Yojimbo), movie characters (e.g. the Rippers in "Tank Girl", Barf in "Space Balls"), and mascots (e.g. the San Diego Chicken and Smokey the Bear) are also, at a basic level, anthropomorphized animals.

Finally, furries are also commonly found in artwork, literature, and mythology (I won't bother to list examples here; I think you've got the idea by now). These are diverse categories, and this is one reason that it is hard to develop a comprehensive notion of what constitutes a "furry".

furry

A furry is any sort of half-animal/half-human creatures, usually bipedal. Most commonly appearing in the form of "talking animals" or "animal-headed people." Many are familiar cartoon characters, such as Bugs Bunny or Mickey Mouse.

A furry is also sometimes used as shorthand to mean a furry fan, i.e., anyone who likes anthropomorphic animals. There is a small but growing fandom for people who like furries.

A furry hater is someone who is willfully ignorant about furries and goes around making stuff up about them on UrbanDictionary.
The common response from people when you ask "Have you ever heard of furry fandom?" is "No." That doesn't mean they're furry haters, they've just never heard of furry fandom.

Furry fandom is pretty awesome.

furry

A hobby/genre which focuses on artwork and stories about animal-headed people. Unfortunately, the brainless boglumps from anti-furry websites just don't "get" furry fandom and clutter up UrbanDictionary with flimsy crapulence because they're incapable of creating anything of their own.

Let's break it down so there can be no confusion: You don't have to think you're an animal to be a furry fan. You don't have to rave about your inner platypus to be a furry fan. You don't have to insert the word "fur" into every sentence to be a furry fan. You don't have to wear a fursuit to be a furry fan. You don't have to like furry porn to be a furry fan.

Most furries are just folks who thought "The Lion King" or "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" or even Sonic the Hedgehog was majorly cool. They write about and draw cartoon animals. I have no idea why this makes some people go apeshit, but there ya go.
Furry fandom makes the brainless boglumps from CrushYiffDestroy waste their lives away and that's just sad.
