Cliff Burton

The Jimi Hendrix of bass guitar. Born February 10th, 1962 in Castro Valley, California. He was the bassist of Metallica from 1982 to 1986.

Metallica's first album Kill 'em All contained songs already composed before Cliff had joined, but his influence would become heavy on the band's later albums. Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets, which were landmarks in the heavy metal genre, both contained songs that were composed and polished to the level of commercial and critical success.

Alas, just like Hendrix, he died young. On September 27th, 1986, during a tour bus ride in rural Sweden, the bus slipped on black ice, causing the bus to overturn, and Cliff was crushed twice, killing him. Since then, the band has had two new bassists, Jason Newsted in 1986, and Robert Trujillo in 2003.
You should hear Cliff Burton's skills on (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth, on the intro of For Whom The Bell Tolls (Yes, it is actually Cliff's bass playing), and on the instrumental Orion.

Burtonesque

adj used to describe people, objects, actions or a kind of atmosphere/tone, which bare a resemblance in nature style to the films of acclaimed director Tim Burton. Burton's films are encapsulated by imaginative and fantastical worlds and characters, reminiscent of the horror films, folk tales and fairytales that bare influence upon the director. These films are characteristically surreal, avant-garde and expressionistic, the tone of which is commonly described as 'dark' and 'gothic' owing to Burton's romanticism and fascination with the macabre. Burton approaches uncomfortable topics with great wit and humour - as if laughing at the world for taking itself too seriously. Burton uses satire, irony and the anti-hero as a tools for social commentary, which is magnified by his juxtaposition of the cliche and the absurd. Johnny Depp says of Burton: "He is an artist, a genius, an oddball, an insane, brilliant, brave, hysterically funny, loyal, non-conformist, honest friend" (Burton on Burton revised edition). This statement is one's best reference for the term Burtonesque, as all of theses qualities are inherent in the films of Tim Burton.
The theater production had a burtonesque quality to it.

burton c. bell

Burton C. Bell is most famous for his role in Fear Factory. As the lead singer of the industrial/hardcore/metal band fear factory he has developed his vocal skills over 15 years (1991 - 2006) since they broke into the metal seen as a borderline death metal band. Burton stood out from the other death metal vocalists when he introduced loud growling/shouting mixing into clean vocals. (Heard clearly in songs such as Martyr) Burton has a very unique vocal style and it can be heard when he performs live concerts as well as on albums such as 'Fear Factory: Demanufacture' and 'Fear Factory: Transgression'. He is also respectively talented writer, he has written several stories and scripts to some of Fear Factories songs which are based around the technologic downside of the human race.
Burton also has a side project which is currently called Ascension of the Watches (AOTW). Burtons' voice is really bought out in AOTW's songs, as he has moved changed his heavy vocals we are use to hearing in Fear Factory to a soft, calming sound of AOTW. Opinions aside, Burton will remain one of the most talented vocalists of our time.
