A nickname sailors gave for the quad 1.1"/75 caliber anti-aircraft gun used during World War II. The gun was commonly found on navy ships.

The Steve Miller song, "Enter Maurice", used the words "sweet words of epismetology", which was probably a misheard version of word. Miller also borrowed another misheard Vernon Green word in the same song, "puppetutes", which he misheard as "pompatus".
