Traditionally, a form of street surfing, originateing in california, see LBC or long boarding community, this also can mean long beach cali. this is not a coincidence. BUT longboards differ from shortboards in that they are designed for speed, smoothness and carving. Not major tricks and ollies. HOWEVER, Longboarding is more about the soul, like longboarding the surfboard, longboarders are almost always very laid back, chill, kind, and overall sick people. Riding a longboard is the ultimate form of freedom, and highly addicting.
Short boarder- Dude im soo f*ckin cool, i can ollie and shitt
longboarder- nice day bro, I just went out, bombed some hills, i hit 40 km on this one hill, then i did some cross steps and carves. wicked chill day dude.

A board originally meant to emulate the feeling of surfing on land. Typically longer than a normal skateboard, but not necessarily. Longboards are for people who want a smooth, chill ride. Also, they are fantastic means of transportation in urban areas where bikes are inconvenient and commonly get stolen. They are far superior to normal skateboards, which offer much less control and a much bumpier ride.
Skateboarder: Dude, just pulled some kickflip 720 grind spins back at the park on my skateboard.
Longboarder: That's very nice man. I just enjoyed the warm rays and calming breeze on the way over here on my longboard.

Like a cross between surfing and skateboarding, but 10 times as kickass, longboarding involves a long board from 30' to 49' long, on average. Longboarding down big hills can put you at 50 MPH, and falling will be really bloody. Carving is the main movement in longboarding, and involves leaning to turn and slow down while bombing a hill.
Im goin skateboarding after school. you in?
Fuck that! longboarding is for the real bad asses
No way, skateboarding you can do tricks! longboarding is gay. you have to stay on the ground
hey, the smaller your baord, the smaller your dick. And talk to me when youve done fifly miles an hour on your microdick of a board

A surfboard from 8 to 12 feet, though it can go bigger. Easy to catch waves on, though waves over 9 feet it gets a bit nasty.
Easy to paddle, too.
