after the failed attempt to blow up a plane in flight by the so-called Christmas Bomber, TSA mandated additional airline security measures including "Enhanced Pat Downs". These pat-down searches which included "groin checks" by blue-gloved TSA agents were seen by many as being intrusive and often likened to government sanctioned sexual molestation.
