Tropical

A good way to not sound racist when referring to minorities. Refers to anyone from an exotic background, but especially people from Latin America, the Pacific Islands, the Caribbean, and South-East Asia.

My buddy: "Yo, did you see that baddie in math class today?"
Me: "Who Juanita?"

My buddy: "Yeah man, she was lookin nice. I love me a tropical girl."

An adjective used as a less-offensive racial term for someone whose race is from a "tropical" part of the world (e.g. Latinx, Pacific Islander, South East Asian, etc.)

Yo, you into my cousin? - Yeah man, I like those tropical girls.

tragically hip

So hip they are square. The phrase was an insider insult by Fernwood Tonight host Barth Gimbel (Martin Mull) multiple times in the 1970s. Fernwood Tonight was a comedy/parody talk show, an off shoot of another 1970s comedy Mary Hartman Mary Hartman. These Fernwood Tonight episodes where the phrase "tragically hip" is used are on YouTube and also archived at archive.org.

That pork pie hat might only appeal to the tragically hip.
