Get the Super Straightmug. As far as I know Minor Threat originated Straight Edge in the 1980s. Originally, the life style consisted of refusing to use drugs/alcohol. Now, a lot of straight edge kids like to avoid casual sex; however, minor threat never portrayed that idea in their song "straight edge." The band has said that they named this life style "straight edge" because it shows someone who has "got their shit straight" which gives them an "edge over others." They started leading this life style in high school when they would see the teens around them ruining their lives with drug use and alcohol. So, they did the opposite of what they saw people doing, which was a large part of the punk scene.
