Phrase used to describe the act of picking up a mobile phone, opening a social media app, and casually scrolling through the feed a few times. Often implies a brief, habitual check-in on social media content.

Every time I hand my friend my phone to show a funny TikTok video, he ends up getting couple scrolls in before actually watching it.

Fritter Scrolling

Wasting time, energy or money, scrolling aimlessly through frivolous content on social media, websites or video sharing sites. Could also be loosely be referred to as Idle Scrolling, which is spending time doing nothing, albeit one is scrolling, they are scrolling without purpose, aim or goal.

The concept is also applied to wasting time through other means, see Fritter Lifing.

I was fritter scrolling and didn't realise how much time had past.

hard scrolling

Scrolling instagram reels, tiktok or other social media platform in a selective and non-time wasting manner, often with a maximum of three second per video to interest you before you decide to scroll to the next one. This method is used to browse reels and tiktoks in the most effective and least time consuming way.

Hard scrolling is contrary to soft scrolling.

Bro I just spent 2 hours hard scrolling and my thumb is sore as fuck!
