MDP2P can be synthesized by oxidation of MDP2Pol (3,4-MethyleneDioxyPhenyl-2-Propanol) using either sodium chlorite or sodium hypochlorite in hydrochloric acid and a byproduct is chlorine gas (if hydrochloric acid isn't used, then you will get the haloform reaction). MDP2P can also be synthesized by a grignard reaction of 3,4-MethyleneDioxyBenzyl magnesium chloride (formed from 3,4-Methylenedioxybenzyl chloride and magnesium turnings in diethyl ether) and acetonitrile followed by hydrochloric acid work-up. MDP2P can also be synthesized from wacker oxidation of safrole.
