George Walker Bush, born July 6, 1946 is the 43rd and current president of the united states. Originally elected in 2000 and reelected in 2004, he comes from a prominent political family as his father was a former president, and his brother Jeb, is the current governor of Florida. He is consequentially, nicknamed Dubya harped upon by his middle initial W.
He and his administration have received criticism on the iraq war, stem cell research, hurricane katrina, NSA wiretaps, and Guantanamo Bay. Prominent legislative victories include the No Child Left Behind Act, which required state testing for children; and the Patriot Act which has widened the tools the government can for security purposes.
Despite higher levels of federal debt, and increasing budget deficits, unemployment levels are low at the moment, and the DOW index recently reached its highest level, breaking the 12,000 index mark for the first time since the recession due to the 9/11 attacks.
