Get the Peter Glendining mug.The frustrating phenomenon where, no matter how much good someone does or how selfless their actions are, they always seem to get the short end of the stick. These individuals consistently prioritize others above themselves, sacrificing personal happiness, desires, or even well-being, only to be met with obstacles, heartbreak, or outright bad luck. It's as if the universe punishes them for their good intentions, denying them the rewards or recognition they truly deserve. At its heart, it’s a cruel irony: the more they strive to do right by the world, the more the world seems to turn its back on them. Whether it’s losing the person they care about, being misunderstood, or watching everything fall apart despite their best efforts.
Guy One: "My girl just left me, my grades are dropping, I don't have money for a ride home and I don't have food for tonight!"
Guy Two: "Damn bro, that's some bad Peter Parker Syndrome."

What the hell are we doing out here? it's -30 and I'm beating a nail in with a rock, why do we always get the Peter Spicer special?
by Mthurber February 6, 2025
Get the Peter Spicer special mug.An adjective used to describe a guy who has liked the same girl for a long time (usually years) but is too scared to ever make a move, even when his friends encourage him or try to set him up. A peter will overthink everything, avoid taking action, and fumble obvious opportunities out of fear.
Example 1:
“You’ve liked her for two years and still haven’t said anything? That’s actually peter behavior.”
Example 2:
“We literally tried to set you up and you still backed out—bro is actually peter.”
Example 3:
“He talks about her nonstop but won’t even text her. Certified peter.”

Get the Peter-frigg mug.A form of age-based dismissal where someone uses age or generational difference to invalidate another's perspective, experience, or authority. Paternoadultism can take several forms: the patronizing "you're young enough to be my child" (implying inexperience), the prescriptive "adults do X" (defining maturity by conformity), or the dismissive "when you're my age you'll understand" (positioning age as wisdom). It's a power move dressed as experience—using years as leverage, age as authority. Like other -isms, it stereotypes and dismisses based on a category (age) rather than engaging content.
"She raised a valid point about workplace culture. He replied, 'When you're my age, you'll understand how things really work.' That's Paternoadultism—dismissing her perspective by appealing to age, not argument. Her point was good regardless of her years. But age was the card, and he played it."
