A blend of Thoreau’s anti‑statism and
classical liberal economics, emphasising absolute individual sovereignty,
private property (especially land), and the rejection of taxation and regulation. Thoreauvian
libertarians invoke Civil Disobedience to justify refusing to pay taxes, licensing fees, or military service. They value voluntary association, homesteading, and the right to secede from society. Unlike mainstream libertarians, they tend to be environmentalists (nature is the ultimate property right) and sceptical of corporations, which they see as artificial state‑created entities.
Example: “He lived in a yurt, earned Bitcoin coding, and never filed a tax return—Thoreauvian
libertarianism:
your life, your land, your
consequences, and no one else’s business.”
