origionally bands without a record label.
Now a variety of bands tht get worse by the minute, most indie is more depressing than emo, each song boring after 2 times worth of hearing it, and hooribly over played, because indie is the new "in"
most indie ppl say they are different and "individual" this cannt be true as they are indie, also most are just trendies and dont actually like the music!!!

As a fashion statement-- indie is the less pathetic step-sibling of emo. It dresses better, is smarter, gets more dates, and has a slightly firmer grip on reality. It must be said, though, that although Indie doesn't cry at shows like Emo does, he/she will go home and cry ABOUT shows while writing in his/her journal. (see excerpt below)
The Fruit Bats show tonight was so fucking amazing. There was this one part when they went into like this twenty minute jam session and..oh my god. I actually died a little.

Despite roots in the word "independant", indie has become anything but that. Being indie now involves listening to music that is top of the chart and so mainstream it is actually impossible to enjoy eg. snow patrol, arctic monkeys, and wearing clothes and hair exactly the same as the person walking alongside them, whatever their gender may be. Strangely, clothes, hair and music is now extremely similar to emo, only less black. Being indie commonly involves worshipping NME like it is holy scripture, again reducing their once independant status to mindless sheep.
Indie kid: "Man I've just heard the new Arctic Monkeys single, it's great how they understand and manage to emphasise the chav culture whilst pushing fun at it"

Indie = independent (usually rock-orientated) music
Indie rock = full one oneself (at least quite often)
Indie rock = full one oneself (at least quite often)
To "be cool" with the other indie rock folks, I must have an extensive record collection with minimal well-known rock titles, have a working turntable and plenty of vinyl to go with it, easily dismiss others, think I'm better, over analyze others, and overall have an attitude that makes people not want to associate with the scene. ... nice job, everyone. nice job

Closed-minded kids who know more about obscure garage bands than who won the World Series or NCAA championship last year. These people stick to their own clichés and rarely participate in sports, work out or exercise, hang out at clubs, or listen to anything with musical talent. Indie dudes become English teachers and corrupt young minds with liberal propaganda, while indie chicks usually become art teachers b/c of their irrelevant academic concentrations. Indie kids usually are very pale as they like the emoish white skin weird clothes look.
Indie kid: "what are you listening to? it's horrible!"
Normie: "umm its the Rolling Stones"
Indie kid: "well im off to philosophy club then off to the diner to smoke 2 packs of cigarettes and discuss City of the Caterpillar’s song meanings."
Normie: "I'll be at my frat house till late"
Indie kid: "I feel uncomfortable in those places"
