Someone that claims to have gotten street smart from growing up on the back streets of somewhere like Orange County or Montana or claims to be a student of human behavior to sound more alert, studious and socially conscious than they actually are, since they're always asking people around them what the fuck is going on. All this is really a defense mechanism to hide the dork beneath the surface. Another one of their favorite defense mechanisms is to imitate someone that other people might describe as unbearable, thinking that by imitating somebody like that, they become somebody like that in actuality.

The poser was none of what he/she claimed to be, but knew that if he/she started being himself/herself, nobody would want to be around him/her, and nobody would want him/her around (except possibly other like minded posers).

1. Somebody or something that poses as, imitates someone or something.
2. A widly used (mispelling of an?) insult by immature people, usually to critisize people they don't know, hypocritcally, for acting and/or dressing a certain way "to be cool."

A poser is someone who pretends to be something they are not in order to look cool. Whether it be a techno poser, an emo poser, or even a lesbian poser, each one pretends to like that in order to be cool. Often, a poser will deny the fact that they are lying, and look at other people's shirts to prove it.

Showing off your noobie trance music, you poser?

Guy1: Hey man, are you punk?
Guy2: Yeah, yeah, man, I'm punk.
Guy1: Oh yeah, man, what bands do you like?
Guy2: Er.. Punk Band 1, Punk Band 2, Punk Band 3....
