It is considered more luxurious because of pillows, stuffed animals, etc, therefore being "wealthy". The foot of the bed typically doesn't have anything adorning it, so therefore it is "poor", thus being the ghetto. Can also be referred to as "Christopher Columbusing", as you are in a place you haven't been in before.
